| Of Interest to Some Members. Triangle Shirtwaist Fire in 1911 At the April 26th Union Meeting, there was some discussion about the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire in New York on March 25th, 1911. This is going to be a topic at the upcoming Women of Steel event being held at the 12075 Hall in Midland. There was great interest on the history behind what happened that day. Due to that interest, I've put some links on our web page for those who may wish to research or read more on the tragic event that occurred in 1911. | USW Local 12934-00 Bargaining Committee and Dow Corning Negotiate a 2 Year Contract Extension USW Local 12934-00 members voted to accept a proposed 2 year contract extension to their current contract with Dow Corning Midland Plant. The company and the union had entered in to negotiations for the 2012 wage re-opener which was negotiated in during the 2009 contract negotiations. The company proposed a 2 year extension of the current labor agreement during these negotiations. The Union Bargaining Committee, upon completing negotiations with the company, held explanation meetings with the membership explaining the proposal. The membership voted over a 2 day period, accepting the 2 year extension. With the extension, the current labor agreement between the company and the union is set to expire in March of 2015. |
| Announcement USW Local 12934 will be holding a fall Union Appreciation Dinner at the Great Hall in Midland, MI. It's our hope that everyone will be able to attend one of the two events we have scheduled. At this time the details are being worked out by the Dinner Committee so please look for further information in the near future for how to RSVP for one of the two evenings. The two dates the committee has secured for the event are Friday, September 21st, 2012 Saturday, October 20th, 2012 |
